SAFARI SHOOT

Want to use your big game rifle in a charging critter scenario and see how you stack up against other big game hunters. Get your .458 Winchester Magnum out of your closet and bring it to the Club for our Safari shoots.

How many of us have big game rifles that we rarely use? A .458 Win Mag or a .375 H&H Magnum that only comes out for a sighting in and for the rare occasion when we go off to use it on a hunt. Or a big muzzle loader like your great, great grandfather used.

Here is your chance to bring it and use it like you might have to in the field.

Dangerous game is not really dangerous until it is in close proximity to the hunter, and when that is the case he doesn't need high velocity but rather a big calibre with a heavy bullet that will penetrate well and also deliver a heavy knockdown wallop.

Our matches will simulate realistic charging critter scenarios. For example: You may take your first shot at 70 metres. By the time you work your bolt and aim again it is 20 metres closer at 50 metres. The next time it is at 30 metres and you have one more chance at 10 metres.

You will start at normal ready and all shooting will be from a standing position. The targets may be IPSC targets. You will only be allowed the specified number of shots (Virginia count), and your score will be divided by the time to see who has the best survival quotient.

Or, the targets may be realistic pictures of big game animals, in which case white paper plates will be put on the vital zones and hits on the plates will be "A" hits and will score 5 points. All other hits on the animal will be a "C" hit and score 4 points.

No more than 4 shots in a stage. There will be 2 stages in a match.

There will be EIGHTEEN categories which will be separately scored:
