SHARON GUN CLUB OFFICIALS

DIRECTORS

TROUBLE BREWING

It seems that the minutes of both corporations are now secret. Up until just lately all members and shareholders have been entitled to view shareholders records, member records, and the directors minutes for both corporations. Also the appointments of officers and committee chairs have not yet been revealed. For the most part the information below under the heading of "OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS" is last year's information and the current information has been withheld. We will get that information and solve some other problems shortly.

MEMBERSHIPS AND SHARES

From the beginning of both corporations (about 1980), Calvin Martin has been responsible for maintaining shareholder records and issuing shares and for maintaining membership records containing all the pertinent details of our members such as addresses, phone numbers , fax numbers, email addresses and handgun, ipsc, practical rifle & shotgun and range 4 qualifications among other matters. All of this information has been freely given to whatever boards needed it along with address labels, membership labels and shares.

To do this he has written software and constantly upgraded it as necessary. Membership data is linked to share data so there is no duplication.

Imagine his surprise when he recently requested information to post with respect to new members, membership renewals and share transfers and received the following strange reply:

Strange Reply

John Gaeler's position is illegal and dangerous, (as any member or shareholder can legally get this information by providing the required documents), and will expose him and any directors who vote with him to litigation, costs, and punitive damages.* Let us hope that he and/or they come to their senses before that has to happen.

* punitive damages can be awarded against people in a position of power if they abuse that power.

OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS

What We Look For

The directors and other officials of Sharon Gun Club are all volunteers. There is no financial remuneration. The survival and growth of Sharon Gun Club and the enthusiastic participation of its members in all of the club's activities is their reward.

What does Sharon Gun Club need from its directors? Firstly, it needs common sense and intelligence directed towards the perpetuation of the club and the shooting sports. It needs an awareness of principles of safety and training and an appreciation that, having mastered the skills and safety, the members want to be able to enjoy themselves.

It needs tough mindedness to deal with the few who are irresponsible about safety or their relations with other members or their use of the club and its facilities. It needs political awareness and the toughness to deal with those who would take us over and those who would attack firearms in general as being the root of all evil.

It needs the skills to run the office of what is now a large corporation, to understand and direct the constant maintenance and improvement of range and clubhouse facilities, to direct and co-ordinate the many training courses and shooting events and to find and encourage volunteers from among the membership. It needs an awareness that the club is part of the township of East Guillimbury, a willingness to participate in community events and a desire to make the club one of the attractions of the township.

What does Sharon Gun Club need from its members? It needs a desire to enjoy the shooting sports and the sociability of the club. It needs appreciation of the importance of safety and awareness that something can always be learned. It needs help from those who can help and moral support from those who cannot.
