The directors and other officials of Sharon Gun Club are all volunteers. There is no financial remuneration. The survival and growth of Sharon Gun Club and the enthusiastic participation of its members in all of the club's activities is their reward. What does Sharon Gun Club need from its directors? Firstly, it needs common sense and intelligence directed towards the perpetuation of the club and the shooting sports. It needs an awareness of principles of safety and training and an appreciation that, having mastered the skills and safety, the members want to be able to enjoy themselves.
It needs tough mindedness to deal with the few who are irresponsible about safety or their relations with other members or their use of the club and its facilities. It needs political awareness and the toughness to deal with those who would take us over and those who would attack firearms in general as being the root of all evil.
It needs the skills to run the office of what is now a large corporation, to understand and direct the constant maintenance and improvement of range and clubhouse facilities, to direct and co-ordinate the many training courses and shooting events and to find and encourage volunteers from among the membership. It needs an awareness that the club is part of the township of East Guillimbury, a willingness to participate in community events and a desire to make the club one of the attractions of the township.
What does Sharon Gun Club need from its members? It needs a desire to enjoy the shooting sports and the sociability of the club. It needs appreciation of the importance of safety and awareness that something can always be learned. It needs help from those who can help and moral support from those who cannot.
